EDUCATION

RESUME

Michael began his music teaching at the Dunedin Saturday Morning Music Classes in the 1980s, where he had previously been a student. He taught group violin classes and conducted orchestras until the mid 1990s. During this time and up to 2003 he maintained a private teaching studio teaching violin, viola, piano and theory.

 

After training as a secondary teacher in 2002, Michael taught Music and Mathematics s at Avonside Girls’ School in Christchurch. While in Christchurch he worked as a conductor for Canterbury Opera with a special responsibility for the youth programme and also for the Christchurch School of Music as conductor of the Christchurch Youth Orchestra.

 

After shifting to the Wellington region in 2007 to become a member of Orchestra Wellinton’s viola section, he taught violin, viola and piano privately. He also founded and conducted the Kapiti Youth Orchestra, conducted the Wellington College and Wellington Girls’ College combined orchestra and Kapiti College orchestra.

 

Since arriving in London he has taught individual lessons in violin, viola and piano and is the Peripatetic Violin teacher at Northcote Lodge School, Russell House School, International School London and works for the Wandsworth Music Service.

TRAINING IN EDUCATION:

 

Massey University College of Education (2002) - Graduate Diploma of Secondary Teaching 

One year course completed extra-murally to gain provisional registration to teach at secondary schools. Subjects: Music and Mathematics

 

University of Otago (1987-1992) - Bachelor of Music (honours, first class)

Six years of study towards Honours Degree in Music majoring in Conducting and BSc in Physics
